Health creation is multi-factorial and in our last post we discussed the benefits of a Spring cleanse through the use of nutrition, this time we will discuss the benefits of exercise on the Spring cleanse.
Exercise has many well established benefits for our bodies. Exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses including cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes and even psychological disorders such as depression. Less publicised are the acute health benefits of regular exercise which can be experienced here and now!
Exercise increases blood and lymphatic circulation throughout your body enhancing the clearing of waste metabolites and toxins from your skin, muscles and organs (such as your liver). Increases in blood and lymphatic circulation also enhance the distribution of essential nutrients to your body’s tissues to aid in repair, recover and oxygenation. Exercise can promote the sparing of muscle mass and can increase it, thus reducing the risks for injury both in daily life and in the future (ie. falls in old age) and enhancing postural support, more efficient calorie consumption as well as a stronger heart and lungs.
Combined with a healthy food program rich in vitamins, minerals and plant compounds called phytochemicals, exercise also enhances our mood, helps with concentration and memory, reduce feelings of fatigue and aids in a general increase in our sense of well being.
Contrary to what you may have heard in the media or television, exercise does not need to consist of endless burpees, pushups and stair climbs until you puke!
Exercises consistently demonstrated to confer the best overall benefit to health optimization and cleansing are ones which employ mild to moderate activity. Government recommendations consist of undertaking thirty to sixty minutes of exercise daily. Take your dog for a walk (or if you don’t have one, borrow one from a friend), walk to work or the shops, go for a cycle on the many bicycle track-ways available or go for a swim at the local pool.
It is important to note that your heart rate needs to be elevated during these sessions, a good way to judge is that your breathing should be labored enough that you can just hold a conversation but couldn’t sing. So if you are having a slow walk, texting and having a good’ol chat on the phone at the same time unfortunately won’t do the job.
With the warmer weather and clear blues skies now is a fantastic opportunity to get some fresh air, increase your circulation and start on the road to a stronger, healthier you!
